World-class”, “Superior” and “Extraordinary” are just a few of the adjectives used to describe countertenor Matthew White and Les Voix Baroques. This Juno and Opus Award nominated ensemble are internationally recognized for their thoughtful and creative programming of vocal music from the baroque and renaissance. For their first tour of the maritime provinces, the men of the ensemble have decided on a program that forces them to examine their limited understanding of the fairer sex. Entitled « Love, Death and the Lady » this concert explores a variety of depictions of the relationship between women and the broader concept of Death. Including tongue in cheek madrigals playing on the idea of «dying » from a moment of pure bliss» , melodramatic texts on the mortal effects of unrequited love, reverential depictions of the Virgin Mary and chilling english folksongs about homicidal mothers, this is an enormously varied program that promises something for every mood. Led by counter-tenor Matthew White, Les Voix Baroques will consist of the tenor Jacques Olivier Chartier, the baritones Sumner Thompson and Normand Richard , the british bass Robert Macdonald and the bazouki player and composer Sean Dagher
