Doors open at 12:30pm
WORKSHOP: In addition to an evening concert, NUA will be delivering a hands-on music workshop.
NUA is an innovative, award-winning, Toronto-based trad trio. Bringing a fresh and unique sound to traditional music, they create their own distinctive original compositions, balanced with traditional and contemporary tunes drawn from Irish and Scottish traditions.
James Law – Fiddle
James will be teaching an all-levels workshop that will give students the opportunity to learn some Scottish fiddle tunes as well as technique improvement and ornamentation. Students are required to bring their own fiddle and have some experience on their instrument. Tunes will be taught completely by ear (no sheet music).
Graeme McGillivray – Guitar
Graeme will be teaching an all-levels guitar workshop that will cover both tune accompaniment as well as learning how to flat-pick a tune. Accompaniment will be taught in standard tuning, as well as a discussion on Drop D vs DADGAD vs Standard tuning. Students are required to bring their own guitar.
Jacob McCauley – Bodhran
Jacob will be teaching an all-levels bodhran workshop that will cover the basics of bodhran technique and primary rhythms up to the more advanced levels of playing. Students will be given the opportunity to learn multiple styles of playing, learn about the history of the instrument, as well as discover the vast possibilities of this simple instrument. Students may be a beginner but some experience is recommended to take full advantage of the workshop. Students are also encouraged to have their own drums/tippers but there will be a few extras on hand.
