Festival of Dance Annapolis Royal presents Carlos Saura’s film "Carmen". It was an international box office hit in 1983 and the second in his celebrated Flamenco trilogy. One of Spanish cinema's great auteurs, Choreographed by the legendary Antonio Gades to the music of Bizet, the film interweaves dance rehearsals with romantic encounters, characters’ fights with choreographed rumbles, and a comical patchwork of 'March of the Toreadors’. Gades plays a burgeoning choreographer searching for a dancer to take on the role of Carmen and then falls in love with his choice. As the film develops, the dancers become indistinct from their roles. The result is mayhem and magic This is a Spanish language film with English subtitles.
