William and Mary agreed to meet on a Sunday; they needed to talk. On the following Tuesday, Mary disappeared.
Tuesdays & Sundays is a play inspired by the true story of William Millman and Mary Tuplin, and the tragedy that shook the quiet community of Margate, Prince Edward Island, in 1887. Written by Canadian playwrights Daniel Arnold and Medina Hahn, this critically-acclaimed play has toured extensively across Canada and internationally. Kitbag Theatre's lauded, sold out production at the Watermark Theatre in 2020 was the piece’s PEI premiere.
We first find William and Mary as blank slates. The young lovers recall, one piece at a time, their lives, their home, each other. We watch them rediscover their youthful love for each other, relive their eager, reckless courtship. Their sweet country romance, however, quickly takes a wrong turn. With each memory recalled, the thread of their story begins to unravel, quickly, almost faster than they can keep up with. They can only watch and breathe as inevitability takes hold.
Starring Island favourites Melissa MacKenzie and Jacob Hemphill, and directed by Rebecca Parent, Tuesdays & Sundays is a gripping piece of Island history, expertly told for today's audience.
“This production of Tuesdays & Sundays is SUPERB. With an incredible script and two outstanding actors the story comes to life with their powerful, deft characterizations and Rebecca Parent's brilliant and creative direction. The piece flows and mesmerizes. You feel you are in the hands of master-storytellers from beginning to end. It is one of the best pieces of theatre I have seen in a long time.” Jan Rudd, theatre professional
“Simply put, Kitbag's Tuesdays & Sundays is a performance too incredible to miss. A must-see.” Hon. Dennis King, Premier of PEI
