This workshop is designed to help Directors, Stage Managers, Producers, Technicians, Actors, and anyone else involved in the creation of theatre to develop and expand their understanding of stage lighting looks and possibilities.

Participants should bring clean, indoor footwear and a water bottle.

The workshop is free but space is limited. Registration is required.

ABOUT PATRICK LAVENDER

Patrick is a production designer and production manager for multiple performing arts disciplines, touring in Canada and internationally. His recent work includes Hamlet – set design (Stratford Festival, 2022), A Midsomer Night’s Dream – set design (Stratford Festival, 2021). He is currently handling (with Kaitlin Hickey) Producing and Production Design for The Book of Life (a Volcano Production in Association with The Woman Cultural Centre, Rwanda).

Other design work includes set, costume, lighting design for Ghost Quartet (Crow’s Theatre); set, lighting, sound design for The Book of Life (Volcano Theatre/Canadian Stage); set and lighting design for The Nether (Coal Mine Theatre); lighting design for It Comes in Waves (Bluemouth Inc./Necessary Angel Theatre); set and lighting design for Brave New World (Litmus Theatre/Theatre Passe Muraille); set, costume, lighting design for Late Company (Surface Underground/Why Not Theatre).

Awards include Dora Award in Musical Theatre Design for Ghost Quartet (Crow’s Theatre); Dora Award in Lighting Design for The Nether (Coal Mine); Dora Award in Independent Set Design for Crawlspace (Videofag); Dora Award in Lighting Design for It Comes in Waves (Bluemouth Inc./Necessary Angel); Toronto Theatre Critics Award in Design for The Nether (Coal Mine).

THE NEXT GEN THEATRE PROJECT is an initiative of King’s Theatre that includes free workshops for both adults and youth to build on the community’s passion for creating theatre. The aim is to celebrate diversity, resilience & belonging in Kespukwitk. The project is supported by Canadian Heritage’s Celebration and Commemoration Program, Reopening Fund.
