Now in its 9th season, Festival of Dance Annapolis Royal (FODAR) is back in full throttle with a lineup of audacious and compelling dance. Presenting 2 distinct MainStage programs on different dates, FODAR showcases the work of emerging and acclaimed artists and pivotal masters from present and past.
Program One:
Anxiety
This is a creation by Simik Komaksiutiksak which he is developing with a collective of artists. It is a study of different mannerisms, gestures, and physical traits that we each carry. Performed at FODAR by Simik and dance artist Katie Couchie, it is an evolving piece reflecting on human experiences and how we are feeling that day.

The Devil's Intervals
A chapter in a collection of nursery rhymes that are woven together to create one cautionary tale. Conceived by multi-talented dancer and choreographer Lydia Zimmer, the full work will make its world premiere in Halifax in December 2023. A World Premiere.

Haazri
A new traditional Kathak solo. Created and performed by Tanveer Alam, it takes a new look at this classic dance genre, while soundly basing it in established techniques — agility, strength, fluidity and mesmerizing footwork.

Thin Skin
Danced by the dazzling Olivier Coëffard, formerly with Nederlands Dans Theater, and choreographed by internationally acclaimed Marco Goecke, this piece is an homage to punk rock icon Patti Smith. An evocative solo, it has been adapted from the original work of the same name.
