5-day Acting Camp at King’s Theatre with Dany Rousseau for Youth ages 8-18
July 22-26, 9:30am – 4:30pm
Dany Rousseau brings Method Acting for Young Performers to King’s Theatre with a scaled-down introduction to the Strasberg Method! There will be a Final Dramatic Performance on the last day for friends and family.
Participants are asked to bring their own snacks, lunch, and beverages.
WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION:
So what is Method Acting? As Lee Strasberg said, “Method Acting is what all actors have always done whenever they acted well. But The Method–it’s how you get there.” At its core, Method Acting is a systematic approach to training the living material that is the actor’s “instrument,” as well as a means for preparing a character. The Method trains actors to use their physical, mental and emotional self in the creation of a character and stresses the way in which personal experience can fire the actor’s imagination. It eschews clichés and pursues individual authenticity, and a reality deeply grounded in the given circumstances of the script.
Through this workshop, these Method-based exercises & strategies will both develop the content of your young actor’s talent and provide a roadmap to their creation of a character. They will learn to use their own life experiences in their creative imagination to infuse each acting choice with genuine thought, desire, sensation, action and feeling resulting in thoughtful, in-depth behavior. We will delve into this systematic approach to actor training together, and conclude the week as “Method Actors” in a Dramatic Showcase.
ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR:
Dany Rousseau is an actor, singer, choreographer, director and teacher, transplanted from NYC, and currently residing in Bear River. Her love of musical theatre began at the tender age of four after she was mesmerized by Judy Garland in The Wizard of Oz. A single live performance of Annie at 8 had her hooked and, after joining former Rockette Bea Brautigam’s dance school, she started her “career” in acting at the age of 10. For over 20 years, Dany has performed as an actor and singer throughout CT and NYC, on film and on stage, and has completed coursework through The Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute, as well as Steps Dance Studio, in Manhattan. After moving to Bear River in 2021, she has committed herself to her new community and growing its community theatre. She is a high school teacher, an artist, as well as a Production Designer and Performance Coach, and channels her artistic skills into theater by way of set, prop, costume, hair and makeup design, application, and construction.
Dany has performed in plays, musicals and cabarets, as well as directed several musical & cabaret productions, here at King’s Theatre. Recent performances include The Mad About March Cabaret (director), A 1940’s Radio Christmas Carol (director), Dracula (Renfield), and Rocky Horror Picture Show (director/choreographer/performer). This year, she’s keeping the hits coming with a reprise of the Interactive Rocky Horror Picture Show, while also creating more theatrical opportunities for the community’s vibrant youth.
