Tidal Notes is an exhibition that talks about our coastal landscape with ink, words, gestural mark making, and flowing colour.
This body of work features a selection of pieces produced during my two-week Artist in Residence at ARTSPLACE in 2022. I arrived here with my handmade portable-studio box, I walked around Annapolis Royal and some local beaches, and then I created 48 small paintings with ink, watercolour, and hand-ground pigments on handmade paper. A kind of visual notetaking.
Another series, Descriptions of Landscape, features collage pieces of my calligraphic artwork, which were started in Montreal and finished here in Nova Scotia. These are quiet, yet graphic little paintings, about this place where I now live.
