PRESENTERS:
TED LIND will present an overview of esoteric art and artists. Esoteric art invites us to journey beyond the canvas, delving into the hidden realms of the mind and spirit. Mediumship, Eastern philosophy, and ancient healing rituals are practices that left their mark on many modern artworks. The influence of occultism and spiritualism on the development of modern art was especially significant. Artist and ARTSPLACE Board Member Ted Lind will share images and stories related to a few select artists whose creations were meant to highlight intangible and otherworldly processes. Attendees will be invited to contribute their thoughts and responses in an open forum-like discussion. Artists featured will be Hilma af Klint, Leonara Carrington, Wassily Kandinsky, Ithell Colquhoun, and Charles Burchfield.
---
ELLIOTT VAN DEUSEN and JODI RUSSELL from Paranormal Phenomena Research & Investigation (PPRI) will speak on the fascinating the intersection between art, creativity, and the paranormal. Throughout history, artists have drawn inspiration from dreams, visions, spiritual experiences, altered states, and encounters with the unexplained, but can art also become connected to paranormal experiences itself?
Drawing upon real-world case examples and PPRI investigations, this presentation will examine reports involving unusual artwork, intuitive and mediumistic impressions, automatic drawing, symbolic imagery, and cases where art has appeared to play a role in reported paranormal phenomena. Blending parapsychology, history, and investigative experience, PPRI will explore the intriguing relationship between artistic expression and extraordinary human experience and ask whether the creative process can sometimes provide a unique window into the unexplained.
=====
ARTSPLACE, Paranormal Paranormal Phenomena Research & Investigation (PPRI) and The Annapolis Heritage Society have come together to present a fascinating weekend touching on themes of the paranormal, art history and local history.
