Celebrate an Old-Fashioned Christmas at Ross Creek!
Join us at Ross Creek Centre for the Arts on Sunday December 6th from 12:00-4:30pm as we celebrate an old-fashioned Christmas and open house. Make your own Christmas gifts and toys; enjoy puppetry, storytelling, and musical performances; and follow author, ecologist and special guest Soren Bondrup-Nielsen on a nature walk around the Ross Creek grounds!
Soren Bondrup-Nielsen is a Professor of Biology at Acadia University and the author of several books, including, most recently, A sound like water dripping (2009, Gaspereau Press). This passionate environmentalist has lead several winter interpretive outings and he will lead one for us, from 12:00-1:00, in celebration of the season. Dress appropriately for wet or snowy weather (boots, mittens, wools, etc)!
After your nature walk come inside and warm up with mulled cider and delicious handmade treats. Join in the hands on fun of Family Art Sunday as we gather in the studios to handcraft unique toys and games for all ages and skill levels. Sit back and enjoy musical performances by harpist Pearl Schachter and Halifax-based singer-songwriter Tanya Davis. Listen to tales told by master storyteller Lori Noseworthy and set your eyes upon our whimsical wintertime puppet show. If you haven't had a chance yet, make sure to visit our Main Gallery to see "A Family of Blankets", a gorgeous series of hand-dyed, handwoven blankets by Halifax-based textile artist Joanna Close. And, to top it all off, there will be merry carolling and the return of the Creekster Bird Tribute Tree!
