Jen Kershaw Genetically Modified Organisms (How GMOs are made, why controversial, the benefits and risks of genetically engineered materials).
Abstract: You all heard a lot of controversy around GMOs (Genetically Modified Organisms) in the 1990's and early 2000's. Fast forward 25 years, what have we learned? How are they made? What crops are grown using genetic modification? Have the studies done in the last three decades put some fears to rest, revealed new ways to use this tool for good, or uncovered unintended consequences? Come join us for an exploration of the science and sociology of GMOs.

Biography: Jen Kershaw works as a Instructor at Acadia University where she teaches laboratories and classes on plants, animals and ecology. Jen is also the Acadia Wildlife Museum collections manager. She studied land reclamation, rehabilitation and restoration, rare plant ecology, and education.
