Role of the Arts in a Just Society Chris O’Neill, Ross Creek Centre
Biography: Chris O'Neill is and actor, writer, and arts leader. She co-founded Two Planks and a Passion Theatre with Ken Schwartz in 1992, developing it from a small two person operation to a national touring company, and then in 2000, began to develop the Ross Creek Centre for the Arts as an internationally recognized multidisciplinary, multicultural and multigenerational centre for Arts and Culture. Along with her continuing work as an actor and arts educator at the Centre, she has been a driving force behind the NS Arts Coalition, and is on the Steering Committee and Political Action Committee of the Canadian Arts Coalition.
Awards: The Mallory Gilbert Leadership Award, The Queen’s Diamond and Golden Jubilee Medals for contribution to community and Canada, and the Valley Arts Award, Merritt Award for Best Ensemble for Schoolhouse (2022).
