Sabbatical Showcase Philosophical Themes in Leisure and Aesthetics by Jason Holt
Abstract: Jason Holt will highlight some of his recent sabbatical work, including the book An Introduction to the Philosophy of Leisure, essays on the aesthetics of martial arts, and the award-winning screenplay, The Professor’s Outline. The guiding thread of this presentation will be how, beyond achieving a work-life balance, integrating various aspects of one’s life can prove especially rewarding.
Biography: Jason Holt is a Professor of Kinesiology at Acadia, where he teaches courses in communication and philosophy of sport. His research interests include aesthetics and the philosophy of physical culture. Recent work has focused on leisure and the aesthetics of martial arts and combat sports. He is also a literary author and taekwondo practitioner.
Every week, we invite ALL members and members of our local community to join us for a free, casual ALLways Learning Series (formerly Lunchtime Learning Series). We cover topics both big and small in scope, from local to international, and from arts to sciences. We aim to offer lively talks, from engaging speakers, that anyone in the audience can enjoy. No registration is required.
The Sabbatical Showcase is an opportunity for Acadia faculty members to share their research with campus and community. This program is in partnership with Acadia Lifelong Learning's ALLways Learning Series.
