Rescue from the Valley: The Halifax Explosion and the Train from Kentville – Dan Conlin
When a munitions explosion devastated Halifax in December 1917, a single telegraph message set in motion a rescue train from the Annapolis Valley towns of Kentville, Wolfville and Windsor. The train provided some of the first outside help that Halifax received after the explosion. Doctors and nurses from the valley encountered surprises and grim challenges that they could have never imagined. Dan Conlin provides an illustrated look at their experience and what this train tells us about the local response to the Halifax Explosion and how it was eclipsed by the publicity ad myths surrounding the American relief efforts after the Halifax Explosion.
