Researching your Ancestors: How to get started – Sally Benevides

Abstract: Sally will present a beginner’s guide, and a bit beyond, to researching family history. This will include how to proceed, and where to find the best resources. Also covered will be how and why to follow the Genealogy Proof Standard, what challenges are met when doing family research, the structure and use of Ancestry.ca, some tips on taking a DNA test, referencing, and genealogy training routes.

Every week, we invite ALL members and members of our local community to join us for a free, casual ALLways Learning Series (formerly Lunchtime Learning Series). We cover topics both big and small in scope, from local to international, and from arts to sciences. We aim to offer lively talks, from engaging speakers, that anyone in the audience can enjoy. No registration is required.
