Moderator – Ali Hassan
Ali Hassan is a stand-up comedian, actor, author, and broadcaster. He is the host of the hit CBC Radio comedy show Laugh Out Loud, and for the past eight years has hosted Canada Reads—CBC’s “Battle of the Books”. A television and film actor, Hassan was recently nominated for the Canadian Screen Awards for his roles in two shows: Run The Burbs and the Peabody Award-winning Sort Of. In 2023, Hassan began touring his one-man show, Does This Taste Funny?, based on his decade in the food industry. His comedic memoir, Is There Bacon in Heaven?, was described by Rick Mercer as “perhaps the funniest and most heartfelt Canadian memoir yet.” @standupali
Pete Muller, Director, Bucks Harbor (Opening Gala)
Pete Muller is an American visual artist and documentarian. He uses photography, film, and other media to examine issues related to masculinities, conflict, and human ecology. Since 2017, he has been a Storytelling Fellow at the National Geographic Society. From 2005 to 2020, he was based in the Middle East and Africa, exploring conflict dynamics in post-colonial states. He has won premier awards from World Press Photo, Pictures of the Year International, the Overseas Press Club, TIME Magazine, and others. In 2022, he won the Emmy Award for Best Documentary for his role as Co-Producer of The First Wave. His photographic work has been exhibited in solo and group shows in London, New York City, Geneva, Cape Town, and elsewhere. Muller also served as the Cyrus Vance Visiting Professor of International Relations at Mount Holyoke College in Massachusetts. @pete_k_muller
Kelly Lipscomb, Director, Bite to Bite (Spotlight Gala)
Kelly Lipscomb is an award-winning producer, author, writer-director, and owner of Widespread Media—a creative advertising agency and production company he founded in Austin, Texas, in 2012. His television credits include work for HBO, Vice Media, Discovery, MTV Networks, Paramount Pictures, and others. Lipscomb created and executive-produced the limited TV series American Daredevils for the History Channel. The first feature film he produced, Homestate, won the 2016 Austin Film Festival Audience Award. His recent commercial ad campaign for Austin-based Nulo Pet Food was named one of the top three commercials of the 2024 Olympics by ADWEEK. Bite to Bite is his first feature-length documentary film.
