Canadian cellist, Geneviève Guimond will join Montréal based pianist Philip Chiu to bring a program of intense and emotionally varied music.
Ms. Guimond began her cello studies at the age of 5 and made her orchestral debut at the age of 10 with I Musici of Montréal, under the direction of Yuli Trnovsky. The winner of many prizes including first prize at the Canadian Music Competition, Geneviève has performed extensively as a soloist and chamber musician in Canada, Italy, Greece, Spain, China and Japan. She has been featured as the main character in an award winning short film by Alex Franchi and is currently the principal cellist of The Julliard Orchestra where she studies as a scholarship student of Richard Aaron.
Widely acclaimed for the brilliance and sensitivity of his playing, Philip Chiu has quickly established his reputation as a truly versatile artist who is highly sought-after as a collaborative pianist. His past concert season included over 75 recitals in Montréal alone, in addition to a Eckhardt-Grammate Competition sponsored cross-country tour with violinist Carissa Klopoushak and a Jeunesses Musicales tour of Eastern Canada with Montréal Symphony Concertmaster, violinist Andrew Wan.
Presenting a program that includes world famous works by Debussy, Ravel and Pärt as well as beloved Canadian composer, Alexina Louis.
Presented by the Associated Alumni of Acadia University in the Garden Room, KC Irving Environmental Science Centre, Acadia University.
