Afua Cooper is a celebrated Jamaican-Canadian dub poet, and one of the founders of the Dub movement in Canada. Perhaps best known for her critically acclaimed book "The Hanging of Angelique," she has published five books of poetry, including the critically acclaimed Copper Woman and Other Poems, and has recorded three poetry CDs. Her poetry has a strong feminist sensibility, and pays attention to family, place, memory, and history. Afua’s poetry has won national and international awards.
Afua Cooper is also a historian of Black Canada, and has written novels for young adults. She is the 3rd James R. Johnston Chair in Black Canadian Studies at Dalhousie University.
