In June 2017 Saint Mary's University professor Aaron Taylor took 11 Canadian students to Cuba to participate in a archaeological field school on a 19th century slave plantation. This project included Cuban archaeologists and students. The goal of this ongoing project is to give voice to the enslaved people who lived and died on the plantation through the recovery and examination of their material culture.
