Masako Iino is former president and professor emerita of Tsuda University, Tokyo. After finishing her BA at Tsuda College (now Tsuda University), Masako Iino studied, as a Fulbright graduate student, at Syracuse University and received her MA in American history. As a professor she taught at Tsuda University for many years in the fields of American and Canadian studies, as well as immigration studies. She taught at Acadia University in 1990, 1993 and 1995. She also taught at McGill University and was a visiting professor at the University of California, Berkeley, and Bryn Mawr College, Pennsylvania. She has been on numerous committees and boards, governmental and academic, national and international. She was president of the Japanese Association for Canadian Studies from 1996 to 2000 and was awarded with the Governor General’s Award in 2001. She has published many books and papers in the fields of Canadian studies, American studies, as well as immigration studies. Her book, A History of Japanese Canadians (Univ. of Tokyo Press, 1997) was awarded with the Canadian Prime Minister’s Award for Publication.
