"The Story of the Covenanter Church, Heritage Chapel of Grand Pré” a presentation by David Murphy, Jim Keech and Anthony Harding
The “Covenanter Church” at 1989 Grand Pré Road, which has been recognised by both provincial and federal governments as a site of historic significance, is the oldest surviving structure of its kind in Canada that is still in use by the surrounding community. This illustrated presentation will show the distinctive features that make the “Covenanter Church” a rare if not unique example of early-1800s church architecture; explain the new role given to it, as a “Heritage Chapel” of the United Church of Canada; and give a brief overview of the turbulent history of the building, which itself reflects a crucial period in the history of this province.
