Recent Attacks on American Universities by Jeffrey Sachs
Abstract: American universities are under siege. Both the federal government and state legislatures across the country are attacking the foundations of academic freedom, campus free speech, and research excellence with unprecedented ruthlessness. In this lecture, Dr. Sachs will provide an overview of these attacks and the ways that they are being experienced by students, faculty, and the larger communities that higher education serves.
Biography: Dr. Sachs is a professor in the departments of Politics and History & Classics at Acadia University. Since 2021, he has been a senior research analyst for PEN America, a free expression organization specializing in the politics of higher education.
Every week, we invite ALL members and members of our local community to join us for a free, casual ALLways Learning Series (formerly Lunchtime Learning Series). We cover topics both big and small in scope, from local to international, and from arts to sciences. We aim to offer lively talks, from engaging speakers, that anyone in the audience can enjoy. No registration is required.
