Climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro by Vaughn Cosman
Abstract: Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to summit the world’s tallest free-standing mountain: Mt Kilimanjaro. Kilimanjaro straddles the Tanzania-Kenya border, rising from the plains and towering over the landscape. Technically achievable by any determined individual, climbing Kilimanjaro and watching the sunrise from Uhuru Peak is truly fulfilling. The mountain supports a wide range of environments and wildlife, and has inspired any number of stories. Not too far away, Ngorongoro crater, Olduvai Gorge, and the Serengeti are also on the itinerary of many adventurers and we’ll briefly explore those as well.
Biography: Vaughn travelled much of the world as an RCAF officer for over 33 years, and defence scientist for another 6, adding personal trips to various destinations from around the Arctic to the Pyramids to Count Dracula’s birthplace to the Great Wall (of China, not Texas) to Hans Island with his Danish counterpart. Vaughn earned a BSc from Dalhousie University, an MDS from the Canadian Forces College, and an MBA from Guelph University. Vaughn lives in the Annapolis Valley, and spends significant time in Southern NB where he helps care for his father and the family farm. His interests include his dog, koi, and cattle, his kids, and planning adventures - some of which materialize.
Every week, we invite ALL members and members of our local community to join us for a free, casual ALLways Learning Series (formerly Lunchtime Learning Series). We cover topics both big and small in scope, from local to international, and from arts to sciences. We aim to offer lively talks, from engaging speakers, that anyone in the audience can enjoy. No registration is required.
